Zach's Effort Against Leukemia
began in May of 2012 when Zach Thorne was diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia.  Zach was 25, far younger than the majority of patients diagnosed with CML.

About the ZEAL Site

Imagine how different your life would be if you were diagnosed with cancer, how it might feel to deliver the news to your family, friends, co-workers, and to live with an  uncertainty of your future. Or perhaps cancer has already touched your life in some way, and you are here because you know the positive effects of your support.

The purpose of this website is to share the experience of someone who has been there. To acquaint you with a man who has decided to live in gratitude for each day in spite of where his diagnosis may take him in life. To inspire you to share in his positive attitude and the belief that he has already won. To encourage and give you the opportunity to help us help him focus on healing and living in spite of ongoing medical expenses.

We invite you to browse, learn and, most importantly, to become part of our support network by getting involved.

About Friends for ZEAL
and the ZEAL Project Team

Friends for ZEAL is an effort by family and friends to share the power of Zach's story. The ZEAL Project Team is a small entity within this group of Friends, a committee of caring individuals who have stepped forward to help make ZEAL events happen!

Together, our goal is to CREATE awareness, INSPIRE hope, ENCOURAGE attitudes and behaviors that nurture coping and healing, and
to CONNECT people with opportunities to support Zach's  well-being.

Our decision to promote HOPE in the face of a medical crisis has evolved into something much more meaningful than just a logo and some fundraising efforts. Our mission has reached far beyond the scope of helping one person  diagnosed with blood cancer, heal and survive.

Our hearts swell with gratitude for the other lives we touch along the way, families, friends, friends of friends and, yes, complete strangers, as we focus on making a difference.

About CML

Chronic myelogenous leukemia is a

slow-growing cancer that starts in the blood-forming cells of the bone marrow (myeloid) and invades the blood.

Although it's not clear what initially sets off this process, doctors have discovered how it progresses into CML. This clearer understanding has lead to the development of the medications currently used to effectively treat CML.

We encourage you to explore some of the resources that helped us understand the nature of Zach's diagnosis.
